A strong, almost spicy herb, Peppermint is in fact a natural hybrid of Spearmint and Water Mint. It’s this that causes it to have a higher menthol content – giving it the desired cooling effect to your mouth. Peppermint can also help soothe sore throats, relieve stress and stop runny noses.
Slightly more subtle, Spearmint is often seen as having a sweeter flavour and fragrance to Peppermint. This is because the flavour mostly comes from a naturally occurring chemical it contains called Carvone. Although less cooling, Spearmint boasts being able to help alleviate nausea and hiccups.
Naturally derived from Mentha arvensis (Wild Mint), Menthol binds to receptors that make us feel cold introducing a cooling sensation. Doubling up as an anti-inflammatory, menthol kills bacteria, reduces irritation and soothes the throat for that long-lasting smoothness. Icy freshness has never tasted so good.
